About Steller’s Cellar

Steller’s Cellar officially opened in June of 2022, but its roots began much earlier than that. While at a family outing at Magic Mountain in the 1990’s with their kids, owners Mark and his wife Wendy requisitioned the official “Steller’s Cellar” shingle from a local artisan and the dream of this special shop began. Now positioned in a sacred spot above the bar, this same shingle hung proudly for seventeen years above the wine department inside Old Town Market, previously owned by the Steller’s since 2004. This unique bottle shop and tasting room stocks hundreds of local hand-crafted wines as well as fine wines from Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Northern California, Oregon and Washington State. Also enjoy Wines from around the World featuring wines from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, South America, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Craft beers are also available both on tap and by the bottle.

Mark and his wife Wendy and their friendly staff invite you to come in and enjoy the casual experience sipping wine or beer in their new place. Come in and see just what “Steller” service is all about.

Meet Mark Steller

Owner Mark Steller purchased the historic Old Town Market in Old Orcutt in 2004 and curated one of the best selections of local wines in the entire county. After seventeen years of ownership, the opportunity to create a brand-new wine bar became available directly across the street. Steller’s Cellar was born which promises to be an even better venue you may have become accustomed to at the old Market.

Mark’s earlier work history was twenty-three years in management at various local Longs Drug Stores and was manager of the liquor department before he could legally buy alcohol for himself. Having served as Store Manager at stores in Lompoc and Santa Maria, he developed a huge local wine selection when the local wine trade was in its infancy. These forty years of previous work experience fostered relationships with winemakers, vineyard managers, wine brokers, tasting room managers and sales staff that continue to this day.

Now a level one Sommelier, Mark believes that wine is something to cherish and share with friends and family. Says Mark, “I enjoy pouring and selling wine to people that matches their palate and individual need. Yes, it’s great to sell a hundred-dollar bottle but not to a customer who cannot afford or appreciate it. It’s my job to sell wine that can be enjoyed by all, regardless of their taste or budget.
